| Steve Marino used to consider it a treat the few times he played Congressional as a teenager. It was a thrill on Thursday to play bogey-free in the first round of the AT&T National and shoot 5-under 65 for a one-shot lead.
Marino, who grew up a half-hour away in Fairfax, Va., birdied three of his opening four holes, never had a par putt longer than 5 feet and finished off his round with an 8-foot birdie to be in the lead after any round for only the second time in his career...Continue |

| PGA Tour begins drug testing era |
| Wed July 2, 2008 6:03 pm |
| Golf enters the modern age of sports with a short walk through history.
The hallway in the clubhouse at Congressional winds past photos of presidents who belonged to the club, newspaper clippings of Ken Venturi's courageous victory in the 1964 U.S. Open, magazine articles of Fred Couples and Ken Venturi winning their first PGA Tour events.
It leads to an elevator, which takes players to the third floor to be tested for drugs.
"It's taken 150 years to test us for drugs," Robert Allenby said...Continue |
